However, I can listen to hours and hours of songs from artists that I love, which is fantastic. Upon Receiving A Stricter Dress Code, Students Could Not Be Happier

I wrote a satire a few months ago for my AP English Literature class, and I just wanted to post it in case anyone wanted to take the time to read it. It was a lot of fun to create, and writing this satire allowed my creativity to shine and express my opinions on dress code. I don't write satires that often, so I thought I would post this since writing these things occurs so rarely for me. Hope you enjoy and get a laugh out of it! Satire on the topic of dress code: At the start of the 2014 school year, the school administrators at No Joy High School stated at the first assembly that they decided to create a stricter dress code so students would come to school dressed “more appropriately.” Because this caused unrest, Principal Smith calmed the students by claiming this change would raise the school’s reputation as a “school that spreads good vibes.” He then concluded with his new motto of the year, “Hashtag swag.” In an interview, Principal Smith confirmed the change, no...

5 Ways To De-Stress

Have you ever had that feeling where your brain is going to explode if one more piece of information goes into it, or that you just want to pull your hair out in chunks because you're so stressed? That is happening to me right now. Waiting to hear back from colleges because of admission decisions being released, and just having tons and tons of homework piling up on my plate, my stress levels are just increasing to their breaking point. Because of my stress, I wanted to write a post about 5 things that help me de-stress in case any of you want to try these out as well. 1. Listening to music - I always listen to music when I'm doing homework, whether it's my AP Calculus homework or typing a take home essay. Music helps me de-stress, as the catchy lyrics and rhythm of each song allows me to delve into the song and dance along instead of bringing myself down because of the stress on my shoulders. People might say music is incredibly distracting when working, but for me it re...

Reading? Psh, Who Does That Nowadays?

Sometime during the last week my AP English Literature teacher said, "Who in this class reads for pleasure and fun? Raise your hand if that applies to you." And to my surprise, less than half the class raised their hands. Now, I'm not sure if the lack of hands raised was due to shyness or not bothering to listen to the question, but I was taken aback by the lack of reading people do outside of school. Personally, I try to fit in reading books other than school ones whenever I have time, but due to my senior year being hectic and packed I haven't had as much time as I wish I had. I am a complete book worm; I love to read, and my parents have even told me numerous times that when I was a little girl they would find me sitting by my nightlight in the dark in the late hours of the night, reading. I still do that today too; I lay in bed reading a teen romance novel (my favorite type of books) at around 10 pm, only looking up to realize hours have passed and it is now 3 a...

The Case For Community College

Although many students would believe that going to a four year college is part of “the norm,” many brush past the idea of community college, a subject usually thought of as an alternative instead of attending a four year college. Even though many students typically head off to four year colleges after graduating from high school, a fair amount also attend community college before transferring to a four year college. There are currently 1,123 community colleges spanning the United States, and many students who believe a four year college is too large a jump from high school opt for community college instead, spending a few years refining their skills and taking the necessary classes to transfer to a four year college. Out of Menlo-Atherton’s class of 2014 graduates, around 33 percent of students chose to attend community college.  According to the Community College Research Center, 45 percent of high school graduates are enrolled in community college. The reason for such a ...
