Guilty Pleasures/Obsessions

I have developed some pretty severe obsessions and guilty pleasures recently, and although I am fully aware that they are not healthy at all, I cannot stop myself from wanting to procrastinate on homework and instead engage myself in those guilty pleasures. Because my obsessions have been piling up on each other for months, I wanted to share them in case anyone shares the same ones as myself.

Here are my top ten guilty pleasures and obsessions:

1. 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) - This band is literally my life. I have around 6 posters of them on the walls of my room, and they are the background of my laptop. I love them to death and have even written blog posts dedicated to them. And I am in fact going to their concert next year, so it looks like my obsession will not be ending any time soon.

2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine - I recently got hooked on this TV show, mainly because I developed a liking to Andy Samberg. He is one of my favorite actors, and he was hilarious on SNL, and is even funnier on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Plus, I have a huge soft spot for comedies, and this specific TV show is the perfect comedy with a mix of police work and crime solving.

3. Starbucks - I have to say, whenever I'm feeling down or unhappy, I always turn to Starbucks. Even though caffeine is never the answer to solving problems, a nice caramel macchiato or vanilla latte makes me so happy. And pairing that with a butter croissant or the petite vanilla bean scones is heaven on earth.

4. Music - I listen to music everyday, whether in the car, on my laptop, or on my phone. I have so many favorite artists I cannot list them all (Coldplay, Green Day, 5SOS, Blink-182, Taylor Henderson, etc.) but music is always there for me when I need to relieve stress or have something to listen to when doing homework.

5. Muffins - Muffins are, strangely enough, one of my guilty pleasures. Although I rarely bake or eat muffins, they are probably my second favorite food. They are amazing, and they come in so many different flavors that they are endless.

6. I also have a weird obsession where I will watch a movie for instance, then be obsessed with it for the next few weeks. I don't have one word to describe it, but whatever I become obsessed with I will not be able to talk about anything else, and it will be all I think about until I decide that my life is not doing anything by thinking about it 24/7, so I just move on.

7. Candy - I have such a bad sweet tooth, and because it is so close to Halloween I have to force myself to drive home straight after school instead of going to Walgreens to look at the candy. Whenever I start eating candy I cannot stop unless I force myself to, which is why I have to stay away from candy at all times in order to keep myself under control.

8. Shopping - I have been obsessed with shopping for years, but in the past few days I have been shopping online for fall sweaters and whatnot, and I find myself putting multiple items in my online shopping cart for multiple stores, resulting in me spending more money than I should be. I have such an obsession with sweaters right now it is insane, and I am sure I am not the only one (or I hope I'm not the only one).

9. Instagram - I have such a bad obsession where I will always be on Instagram at any time of the day, and at night I have developed a habit of laying in bed at 11 pm to midnight scrolling through my news feed when I really should be sleeping. Instagram is my favorite app right now, and it is so addicting that I cannot pull myself away from checking my account daily.

10. YouTube - You know how there are such things as youtubers? Well I am obsessed with them. I have become so reliant that I know exactly what day my favorite youtubers post their videos, and I wait until I am home from school so I can spend hours watching video after video of my favorite youtubers. Every single day I scroll through my subscriptions feed looking for a video to watch; it has become a habit, and going days without watching a youtuber's video feels so wrong to me.

Those are just some of my weird obsessions ad guilty pleasures. I hope that there are people out there in the world that share some of the same obsessions as me, and possibly have even stranger ones too. Having an obsession or multiple is completely normal, and it should be embraced because experiencing the concept of fangirling or fanboying is really unique and special.

Getting Through Finals Week

As winter break is approaching and finals week is coming up, many students are stressed about how to study in order to perform successfully on their tests. Here are some tips on how to be calm, well rested, and ready for finals week. 1. Use Quizlet  - I started using Quizlet my junior year of high school, and I have used it ever since. I am now a freshman in college and I still use Quizlet for my classes. Quizlet is amazing; if you have a lot of terms you need to memorize, Quizlet is the perfect online website that will help you study those terms. Once you write in the terms and their definitions, there are a variety of options you can choose in order to study the terms, including a test, flashcards, etc. 2. Get lots of rest - Don't stay out late when you know you have a final the next day. Getting a lot of rest is beneficial if you want to perform well on a test. It does sound lame to go to sleep really early, but if you do so, your body will thank you. By going to sleep early...

Spicy Veggie Bean Chili

Since moving from my old house with a tiny, cramped kitchen to my new house with a large, open kitchen with an island, I have been meal prepping, cooking, and baking a lot more. With this, I have been keen to try new recipes! I do eat meat, but most of the time I tend to cook vegetarian and vegan meals. This vegetarian chili recipe was one that I came across while browsing for a good, hearty chili recipe, and it is so delicious I had to share it with all of you. I did not come up with this recipe myself. The lovely Shannon, with her blog "The Glowing Fridge," posted this recipe. Her website is amazing, and I highly recommend you check it out. (Also, if you are interested in more plant based recipes, take a look at Shannon's website here: https://www.theglowingfridge.com ) Ingredients: 1/3 cup vegetable broth (or 1 tbsp olive oil) - for sautéing 1 onion, diced 1/4 of a finely diced jalapeño (optional) 3 minced cloves of garlic 1 bell pepper of any color, diced 1 ...
