It has been a while...

It has been a while since I have posted anything on my blog, and because of that, I feel disconnected from it. I used to post weekly, even twice a week, but ever since I worked over the summer and college started, I have barely have had time to write a post. So, hello everyone! I am back.

This post is going to be all about updates on my life. From starting college to Thanksgiving and Winter break to starting the next quarter of college again, I have been incredibly busy with studying, applying for internships and jobs, and figuring out what classes I need to take for the quarter coming up. To be honest, I am dealing with a lot of stress right now. I am currently writing this blog post in the library on a Sunday (lame, I know), but I felt like this was long overdue.

College has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs, and I am only in my freshman year. Since I am on the quarter system we have a lot of material to learn in 10 weeks, and that includes taking midterms and finals. My fall quarter was not a breeze, but I did not find myself struggling all that much. However this quarter, I am finding my classes incredibly difficult. From the first week of this quarter I was surrounded by homework assignments, and now, in the third week of the quarter, I am somehow managing to keep my head above the water. I am only taking 3 classes this quarter, but they are definitely not a walk in the park. One of my classes is also an 8 am that is 3 days a week, which forces me to go to sleep early, which makes me struggle to finish all my homework on time. Thus, I use weekends to really get ahead for the week coming up.

Surprisingly, my approach towards school has changed from how I was fall quarter. Fall quarter I promised myself to study, not procrastinate, do well in school, make new friends, explore campus, etc. And I think I did a pretty good job of fulfilling all of those things. However, since my classes were not as difficult fall quarter, I did not spend as much time studying as I am now. All of my classes last quarter were in the morning or early afternoon, so I spent the rest of the afternoon watching TV, and made after dinner homework time. This quarter, any free time I have is homework time. Of course I am making time for social outings and Netflix, but my classes this quarter are demanding more of me, and as a result, I have to put more effort in.

All that I have just wrote makes college seem intense and frustrating. However, college is amazing. Taking classes I need for my major or ones that I am taking for a GE are things I look forward to. I think my advice for choosing college classes is this: take classes you are interested in. A lot of college students complain about taking Chem, Physics, Bio, Math, or other classes they need for their major that they just don't wanna take. But what I recommend is to take those classes for those major and balance them out with enrolling in another class you're interested in. That way your schedule will be balanced and you will enjoy what you are learning.

This post ended up being me talking about my college experience. However, I promise to continue writing and posting, and encouraging myself to get back to the frequent weekly postings I did for years. So I hope you enjoy this post, and I will hopefully get back to writing as much as I use to.

Getting Through Finals Week

As winter break is approaching and finals week is coming up, many students are stressed about how to study in order to perform successfully on their tests. Here are some tips on how to be calm, well rested, and ready for finals week. 1. Use Quizlet  - I started using Quizlet my junior year of high school, and I have used it ever since. I am now a freshman in college and I still use Quizlet for my classes. Quizlet is amazing; if you have a lot of terms you need to memorize, Quizlet is the perfect online website that will help you study those terms. Once you write in the terms and their definitions, there are a variety of options you can choose in order to study the terms, including a test, flashcards, etc. 2. Get lots of rest - Don't stay out late when you know you have a final the next day. Getting a lot of rest is beneficial if you want to perform well on a test. It does sound lame to go to sleep really early, but if you do so, your body will thank you. By going to sleep early...

Spicy Veggie Bean Chili

Since moving from my old house with a tiny, cramped kitchen to my new house with a large, open kitchen with an island, I have been meal prepping, cooking, and baking a lot more. With this, I have been keen to try new recipes! I do eat meat, but most of the time I tend to cook vegetarian and vegan meals. This vegetarian chili recipe was one that I came across while browsing for a good, hearty chili recipe, and it is so delicious I had to share it with all of you. I did not come up with this recipe myself. The lovely Shannon, with her blog "The Glowing Fridge," posted this recipe. Her website is amazing, and I highly recommend you check it out. (Also, if you are interested in more plant based recipes, take a look at Shannon's website here: https://www.theglowingfridge.com ) Ingredients: 1/3 cup vegetable broth (or 1 tbsp olive oil) - for sautéing 1 onion, diced 1/4 of a finely diced jalapeño (optional) 3 minced cloves of garlic 1 bell pepper of any color, diced 1 ...
