A Journalism Geek, And Loving It

On the first day of my junior year I received my schedule, ecstatic to see my classes for my junior year of high school. I was already aware that I was taking journalism, but for M-A Bear News, not The MArk. When I saw that I was placed in The MArk I became depressed, and I went to that class with a dull expression, knowing it would be a long year. But, little did I know that taking journalism for The MArk would transform me into the writer I am today.

Taking The MArk was probably one of the best things I have ever done. Because we make a magazine we have more reasonable deadlines, allowing us to have more flexibility to interview, write, edit, and play around with our layouts. I can honestly say from my freshman and sophomore years I never bothered to glance at the magazine produced by our own students, but now that I am a part of the MArk I look forward to every issue. The atmosphere of the class is great and all the students are so open to sharing ideas and messing around with each other.

I think one of the best parts of journalism though is the teacher, Mrs. Snow. She is honestly the funniest and most loving teacher, and I feel like I can come to her for anything, whether it's personal or just a "I need help now!" statement. She is so down to earth, and she is open to talking about anything, whether it's about shopping, prom, dating, or even gossiping about Leonardo DiCaprio. I don't know where I would be without her; she is able to connect with me no matter what problem I bring to her, and always knows how to put a smile on my face.

Because of this class I have definitely turned into a journalism geek, but for the better. I have learned to love writing, and I mainly started this blog because I wanted a place where I could write whatever comes to mind, while loving it at the same time. It sounds cheesy, I know, but I have developed a love for journalism, a love and passion that no one will understand. Writing articles for a magazine just puts a smile on my face, and even if no one reads my article in our school magazine I know that putting in all that effort to produce an article is my idea of fun.

So thanks Mrs. Snow and all my journalism peers. For introducing me to a passion I never knew I had, and inspiring me to start this blog in order to further my love for writing.

Book Recommendations

I am a huge book worm and try to read whenever I have time, which is usually late at night before I go to bed, on weekends, or on breaks. I recently found that I was short on books to read, which led me to research on Google novels that would appeal to me. Because I am a sucker for romance movies, I mainly looked for that genre of novels. I recently got a few novels in the mail along with a few that a friend let me borrow, and I want to share them with you. 1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I have read this book around three or four times, and it is still my favorite novel. It is a story about two teenagers who do have cancer, but it focuses more on the blossoming love story between them and how their world changes because of that as they also go through ups and downs due to their illnesses. It is a great read anywhere and anytime, and will always make you tear up by the end. 2. Let It Snow - This novel consists of three holiday stories written by John Green, Maure...

Dairy-free Banana Bread

From the end of 2019 to now, I have been really into baking breads. Out of the ones I have made, making banana bread and pumpkin walnut bread have been my top favorites. One of the first banana breads that I made was utterly delicious! However, because I like to share my baked goods with others, particularly my boyfriend, I went on the hunt for a dairy free recipe. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, and I wanted to bake something that both he and I could enjoy. So, upon coming upon this recipe during my search online, I made a loaf last night and it was so delicious I had to share it on the blog. Here is the recipe! Photo from Google Images Ingredients: 4 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup canola oil or coconut oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp sea salt Steps: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a standard size loaf pan (I use olive ...
