2014 MTV Video Music Awards

The VMAs were today (August 24, 2014) at the Forum in Los Angeles, California, and I have to say, the show was amazing. I personally had been waiting months for this day, only to find out I didn't have cable, so I had to wait until about 8:30 pm to watch clips of the performances and to view the winners, which was TORTURE. However, the wait was so worth it.

After the show started airing live I probably refreshed the MTV page and their instagram page about 100 times, trying to figure out the winners and watch the live red carpet stream. I was mainly waiting to see Five Seconds of Summer walk the carpet, and screamed in agony as I walked over to my laptop to find they had just walked it and I wasn't there to see it. However, their performance made up for it.

I was excited for all the nominees and winners, however the performances I was the most excited about was Five Seconds of Summer (duh) and the collab with Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Jessie J. When the performances finally uploaded to mtv.com I immediately clicked on the 5SOS video, excited to see them perform. I actually wasn't expecting much from them for some reason, but as soon as Calum started singing the lyrics to their song Amnesia, I was blown away. He sounded great, looked the part, and the rest of the band upheld the high expectations for the performance. What I was most excited for though, was Luke. He is by far my favorite out of the band, so when the chorus came, my eyes were glued to the screen as Luke started singing, captivated by his perfect voice. The entire band really brought it for the VMAs, and I couldn't be happier.

However, what surprised me the most was the fact that some of the members of 5SOS were a bit emotional on stage. In the close ups, Luke was seen singing his heart out with what seemed to be tears in his eyes. Although he didn't full on cry onstage, I think the lyrics of the song were so personal and meaningful that he gave it his all. And their hard work paid off.

Another performance that made me do a double take was Sam Smith's Stay With Me. Now, I have his song on my iphone, and I listen to it all the time on the radio, but I had never actually watched a video of him singing live. And I had seen comments saying how he sounded better than ever at the VMAs. So, I watched his video. And oh my god. He was a god. The song is touching alone, but he was sang with so much passion tonight, and gave a soulful rendition of it. I found myself pressing the replay button over and over again, not being able to get enough of his voice.

Although I have gone on and on about 5SOS and Sam Smith, the other winners and nominees deserve some attention too. So, here are the winners for the nominations:

Book Recommendations

I am a huge book worm and try to read whenever I have time, which is usually late at night before I go to bed, on weekends, or on breaks. I recently found that I was short on books to read, which led me to research on Google novels that would appeal to me. Because I am a sucker for romance movies, I mainly looked for that genre of novels. I recently got a few novels in the mail along with a few that a friend let me borrow, and I want to share them with you. 1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I have read this book around three or four times, and it is still my favorite novel. It is a story about two teenagers who do have cancer, but it focuses more on the blossoming love story between them and how their world changes because of that as they also go through ups and downs due to their illnesses. It is a great read anywhere and anytime, and will always make you tear up by the end. 2. Let It Snow - This novel consists of three holiday stories written by John Green, Maure...

Dairy-free Banana Bread

From the end of 2019 to now, I have been really into baking breads. Out of the ones I have made, making banana bread and pumpkin walnut bread have been my top favorites. One of the first banana breads that I made was utterly delicious! However, because I like to share my baked goods with others, particularly my boyfriend, I went on the hunt for a dairy free recipe. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, and I wanted to bake something that both he and I could enjoy. So, upon coming upon this recipe during my search online, I made a loaf last night and it was so delicious I had to share it on the blog. Here is the recipe! Photo from Google Images Ingredients: 4 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup canola oil or coconut oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp sea salt Steps: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a standard size loaf pan (I use olive ...
