College: A Rollercoaster Full of Ups and Downs

For those in elementary and middle school, the thought or mentioning of college leads to a shrugging of the shoulders and a "why should i care about that" look. However, for high school and even college students, college either causes them to look at you with wide eyes, or sigh in exhaustion. College, in my opinion, is a great experience, but it is also physically and mentally exhausting. In this post I will explain the ups and downs, and basically the rollercoaster that is college by listing the pros and cons of the college experience.

Pros:

1. Having your own freedom - college is a time where you can start fresh and be fully in charge of your life, the decisions you make, and how you decide to lead your life

2. College is a place where you can make new friends

3. Living in a new city, state, or even country for the next 4 years of your life

4. Having a lot more free time - you typically have a few classes a day in college instead of 8 hours of school Monday through Friday in high school

5. You get to take classes focused specifically on your major as well as taking other classes for GEs that expand your knowledge

Cons:

1. Sharing a room with your roommates can make the room feel cramped and tight

2. College classes typically have a lot of material packed into each lecture and can be fast paced - college classes, in my opinion, are also a lot more challenging than high school classes

3. In college you have to take matters into your own hand, be aware of your academic performance, and get help if needed instead of waiting for help to come to you

4. Sometimes first year students have trouble transitioning to the college lifestyle, going through periods of home sickness, doubt, fear, etc.

5. Students have to create their own study habits and learn how to manage their time effectively in order to get enough sleep, stay on top of assignments, and not miss class.

Although these are a few pros and cons that I noticed at my college, there are definitely much more of each present at each college campus. Obviously I cannot think of them all, but these are the few that came to my head immediately. Although college is a rollercoaster, I love it; I am enjoying the whole experience of living in a new city, surrounded by so many other college students and professors. College is hard, there's no doubt about it, but I think that in learning how to manage your own time and create a balance between school work, extracurriculars, social life, etc. you can succeed. College is the time to start fresh, experience new things, and really think about who you are as an individual. Even though experiencing pros and cons are inevitable in college, they all contribute to shaping your college experience and who you are. After all, it is your choice on how you want to shape your life and future in college.

Book Recommendations

I am a huge book worm and try to read whenever I have time, which is usually late at night before I go to bed, on weekends, or on breaks. I recently found that I was short on books to read, which led me to research on Google novels that would appeal to me. Because I am a sucker for romance movies, I mainly looked for that genre of novels. I recently got a few novels in the mail along with a few that a friend let me borrow, and I want to share them with you. 1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I have read this book around three or four times, and it is still my favorite novel. It is a story about two teenagers who do have cancer, but it focuses more on the blossoming love story between them and how their world changes because of that as they also go through ups and downs due to their illnesses. It is a great read anywhere and anytime, and will always make you tear up by the end. 2. Let It Snow - This novel consists of three holiday stories written by John Green, Maure...

Dairy-free Banana Bread

From the end of 2019 to now, I have been really into baking breads. Out of the ones I have made, making banana bread and pumpkin walnut bread have been my top favorites. One of the first banana breads that I made was utterly delicious! However, because I like to share my baked goods with others, particularly my boyfriend, I went on the hunt for a dairy free recipe. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, and I wanted to bake something that both he and I could enjoy. So, upon coming upon this recipe during my search online, I made a loaf last night and it was so delicious I had to share it on the blog. Here is the recipe! Photo from Google Images Ingredients: 4 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup canola oil or coconut oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp sea salt Steps: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
