Everyone's Got This Wrong
The movie The Great Gatsby was released into theaters all across the country on May 10, 2013. Gatsby was one of the most popular and most watched movies of the summer, attracting people of all ages to the theater due to its wide appeal to different types of audiences.
But along with the rave about Gatsby came the criticism. People who viewed the movie stated that Gatsby was a complete and utter misconception of the 1920's, and that everything was way too extravagant and cheesy, whether it was from the parties that Gatsby threw to the lust that Gatsby feels for Daisy and the awkwardness of their relationship.
I recently saw the movie with my father a few weeks ago during winter break, and let me say, it was by far the best movie I have ever seen. Gatsby immediately worked its way up to my top movies list, which includes Catching Fire, We're the Millers, 21 Jump Street, Finding Nemo, etc. I had read the book the summer of 2012, and I was stoked when I found out that the book was being transformed into a film. I will openly state that I had high expectations for this movie considering that the book was one of Fitzgerald's best novels, and the movie met those expectations. The actors/actresses really embodied their characters, and I thought that the parties that Gatsby threw were entertaining and extravagant. The budding and fiery romance between Gatsby and Daisy was a bit cheesy, but it worked out in a way that really appealed to the audiences, as the fact that Gatsby did everything just for Daisy showed that he was a complete romantic.
Although you may have heard both good and negative comments about The Great Gatsby go see it; it's a fantastic movie that portrays the desire for the American Dream, and the lust and sexual tension between many of the characters creates a heightened tension between their relationships, making the movie even more exciting.
