Meryl and Maks Take The Mirror Ball Trophy!

The Dancing With The Stars finale of season 18 took place May 19th and 20th and was intense, as all three couples danced their hearts out both nights in hopes of winning the mirror ball trophy.

In the end, Maks Chmerkovskiy and Meryl Davis took home the trophy, which is an add on to Meryl's recent winning of the gold medal with her ice-dancing partner Charlie White. When their names were announced as the winners tears of joy were present, and the looks on their faces were of pure excitement.

Chmerkovskiy claimed minutes after the win that winning the show unleashed pure joy within him, claiming that even though the trophy is "just plastic, it means so much." In his many years of being on the show as a professional dancer, Maks has come so close to winning the trophy, only to come up short in finales, earning second or third place. But with Meryl, he claimed that he knew she was the one that would win it all.

The finale started off with the elimination of James and Peta, which was a shocker, as they earned fantastic scores from the judges and were the audience's favorite couple. This left the final three, Meryl and Maks, Amy and Derek, and Candace and Mark. All three couples really brought it for the finale, incorporating complex lifts and flips that left the judges staring in awe. But despite the high scores all three couples earned, Meryl and Maks were the champions of season 18.

It was clear that from the start of the season that Meryl and Maks had chemistry. As the show went on, many viewers started to joke about the fact that Meryl and Maks should date, and that spread to the judges, who also claimed that they should get married. This chemistry both on and off set though, was what paid off in the end, as the two dancers were able to take home the mirror ball trophy.

One of the biggest shockers from the finale though, was what Len said when critiquing Meryl's and Mak's dance. He said, "I don't know if it's true but this may be my last season and if it is, I couldn't wish for a better dance to watch to finish up with. You two are great."

Now, isn't that just the sweetest thing Len has ever said in all 18 seasons? We all don't want Len to leave, but this just creates a heightened thrill for the show; what will season 19 bring, and who will be on the judging panel? We will just have to wait to find out.

Getting Through Finals Week

As winter break is approaching and finals week is coming up, many students are stressed about how to study in order to perform successfully on their tests. Here are some tips on how to be calm, well rested, and ready for finals week. 1. Use Quizlet  - I started using Quizlet my junior year of high school, and I have used it ever since. I am now a freshman in college and I still use Quizlet for my classes. Quizlet is amazing; if you have a lot of terms you need to memorize, Quizlet is the perfect online website that will help you study those terms. Once you write in the terms and their definitions, there are a variety of options you can choose in order to study the terms, including a test, flashcards, etc. 2. Get lots of rest - Don't stay out late when you know you have a final the next day. Getting a lot of rest is beneficial if you want to perform well on a test. It does sound lame to go to sleep really early, but if you do so, your body will thank you. By going to sleep early...

Spicy Veggie Bean Chili

Since moving from my old house with a tiny, cramped kitchen to my new house with a large, open kitchen with an island, I have been meal prepping, cooking, and baking a lot more. With this, I have been keen to try new recipes! I do eat meat, but most of the time I tend to cook vegetarian and vegan meals. This vegetarian chili recipe was one that I came across while browsing for a good, hearty chili recipe, and it is so delicious I had to share it with all of you. I did not come up with this recipe myself. The lovely Shannon, with her blog "The Glowing Fridge," posted this recipe. Her website is amazing, and I highly recommend you check it out. (Also, if you are interested in more plant based recipes, take a look at Shannon's website here: https://www.theglowingfridge.com ) Ingredients: 1/3 cup vegetable broth (or 1 tbsp olive oil) - for sautéing 1 onion, diced 1/4 of a finely diced jalapeño (optional) 3 minced cloves of garlic 1 bell pepper of any color, diced 1 ...
