So I normally post weekly blog updates and not ones twice in a week, but I just needed to post an update on my musical lifestyle. So today I picked up my guitar for the first time since I stopped taking lessons in June 2013. I had been itching to play again, as music was the only thing that kept me sane, well the only thing besides horses. Music was such a big part of my lifestyle, as I grew up with music since I was three, and not playing for so long made me realize that by abandoning music I was letting go of a huge part of my life. I realized that I didn't want to let it go because I would regret it in my adult years, so that is why I finally made that step and picked my guitar back up for the first time.
When I opened up my guitar case I finally felt like I was at home, and as I tuned my guitar I felt so satisfied. I noticed I was flinching at the ugly out of tune sounds my guitar made and smiling when I attempted to ply a chord and saw my fingers moving to place themselves on the correct fret and string, contributing to the fact that I had missed so much in the months that I did not play. And now, as I play the complex songs I had once known by heart before, I feel it all coming back to me.
The emotions that I put into each peace is what makes me feel so accomplished when I play; I always learn each piece by heart and practice each song until my fingers cramp and my hand whines from all the work. I started out missing the majority of the notes on each song and I cringed as I heard all the wrong sounds coming out of the guitar. But as I practiced I slowly picked it back up, and before I knew it, 2 hours had gone by. By this time my fingers were hurting and my hand was tired of plucking the strings, yet I still felt the urge to play. I guess I was just trying to make up for lost time.
I am so glad I decided to pick the guitar back up. Music is a huge part of my life and it has been ever since I was a little girl. I can't believe how much I had forgotten ever since I set the instrument down, determined to abandon it forever. But I am so glad I decided to pick it back up. I don't know what I would do without music; I love hearing the beautiful melodies that comes from a result of my playing, and I love making those who watch me play happy.
