5 Seconds of Summer Concert 2016

I wrote a post in July 2015 about going to the 5 Seconds of Summer concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, and I remember very clearly how I went on and on about how great the boys sounded vocally and how it was the best night of my life. Well.... I went to see 5 Seconds of Summer again in concert last night (September 2, 2016), and to be honest, the concert last night was even better than the one from last year.

My friend and I got to the venue at 5:40 pm and waited in line for doors to open. Doors opened around 6:30 pm, and we got into the venue around 7 pm. We grabbed food and found our seats, which were Section 103 Row Q, seats 9 and 10. The seats were incredible; we had a great view of the stage and got to actually see the boys, compared to the 2015 Rock Out With Your Socks Out tour where we were on the lawn. My view from my seat from the concert yesterday also gave me the perfect view of Luke (my favorite member of the band).

The opening acts were amazing; Roy English was first, then Hey Violet. They both had so much energy and livelihood and really hyped up the audience for 5SOS. After both opening acts, we waited 30 minutes for 5SOS to come out, and even though they were half an hour late, they completely made up for it in the 2 hour setlist they performed. 5SOS was incredible; they had me screaming right from the moment they walked on stage. I screamed/sang every 5SOS song the band performed, and by the end of the night, my ears were ringing from being so close to the speakers, and my voice was gone from singing for 2 hours straight.

The boys were incredible as always. Michael was really sweet and had killer vocals during Jet Black Heart, Ashton was killing it on the drums, Luke had my heart racing with his vocals and his dance moves, and Calum always had a smile on his face, which filled me with glee. Songs from their setlist included What I Like About You, Waste The Night, Pizza (my favorite), Castaway, She Looks So Perfect, Jet Black Heart, Permanent Vacation, Vapor, among many more. I sang the words to all of their songs, and danced along with everyone else. 5SOS was so active and energetic on stage; they always encouraged us to dance and sing like crazy, and they really engaged with us, as Luke was constantly moving around on stage and even walked so far up the sidelines of the floor that fans could reach out and touch him, and during Pizza Ashton jumped off stage and ran up aisle of the floor.

One of my favorite parts of the show was the encore, where they came out and sang an acoustic version of San Francisco. Michael made a deal with us, saying that once they sang their last 2 songs and walked off stage, if we were the loudest crowd in all of their SLFL tour crowds, they would come out and sing San Francisco. I assume we were pretty darn loud, as they came out and sang an intimate acoustic performance of the song, then ended the show by giving out free t-shirts and the boys throwing their guitar picks and drum sticks to fans.

This concert last night was the second best night of my life, the best night being last year, when I went to see 5SOS for the first time in concert. When each of the boys talked, we all screamed like crazy for them, and Luke even said that we dazzled him, which was absolutely incredible. I am, and always will be a true fan of 5SOS, and I believe that everyone should go see them. Parents were even jamming out, which made me giggle and dance alongside them. 5 Seconds of Summer is an incredible band and they deserve all the success they have been given, and I cannot wait to see them again in concert and continue to listen to the incredible music they will produce in the future.

Getting Through Finals Week

As winter break is approaching and finals week is coming up, many students are stressed about how to study in order to perform successfully on their tests. Here are some tips on how to be calm, well rested, and ready for finals week. 1. Use Quizlet  - I started using Quizlet my junior year of high school, and I have used it ever since. I am now a freshman in college and I still use Quizlet for my classes. Quizlet is amazing; if you have a lot of terms you need to memorize, Quizlet is the perfect online website that will help you study those terms. Once you write in the terms and their definitions, there are a variety of options you can choose in order to study the terms, including a test, flashcards, etc. 2. Get lots of rest - Don't stay out late when you know you have a final the next day. Getting a lot of rest is beneficial if you want to perform well on a test. It does sound lame to go to sleep really early, but if you do so, your body will thank you. By going to sleep early...

Spicy Veggie Bean Chili

Since moving from my old house with a tiny, cramped kitchen to my new house with a large, open kitchen with an island, I have been meal prepping, cooking, and baking a lot more. With this, I have been keen to try new recipes! I do eat meat, but most of the time I tend to cook vegetarian and vegan meals. This vegetarian chili recipe was one that I came across while browsing for a good, hearty chili recipe, and it is so delicious I had to share it with all of you. I did not come up with this recipe myself. The lovely Shannon, with her blog "The Glowing Fridge," posted this recipe. Her website is amazing, and I highly recommend you check it out. (Also, if you are interested in more plant based recipes, take a look at Shannon's website here: https://www.theglowingfridge.com ) Ingredients: 1/3 cup vegetable broth (or 1 tbsp olive oil) - for sautéing 1 onion, diced 1/4 of a finely diced jalapeño (optional) 3 minced cloves of garlic 1 bell pepper of any color, diced 1 ...
