Stepping Out Into The World

For the majority of the time that I have been alive, I have always stayed inside my comfort zone. I just felt comfortable there, and I wasn't one who wanted to try branching outside of my comfort zone and fail or make a fool out of myself, which would make then make me feel terrible and retreat back into the familiarity of my comfort zone. There are so many shy girls and boys like me out there in the world today. And when we are shy, we tend to stay in our comfort zones, which therefore leads to not socializing with others, keeping to ourselves, and being really quiet overall. However, this summer I decided to make a change in my own life. This change was to be more outgoing and social.

This summer I decided to try new things; hence, I wanted to become more social, have new experiences, and overall put myself out of my comfort zone. In high school I was never one to go out to a lot of social events, and instead I preferred to stay inside and watch Netflix or read a book. But this summer I decided to go out a lot more with friends, rekindle the friendships I had neglected for far too long, and take advantage of all life has to offer. To be honest, I was scared to go outside of my comfort zone; I had been living in a world filled with so much comfort and satisfaction that the thought of going outside of my comfort zone and trying new things terrified me. However, I had made a pact to myself, and I decided to face my fear and take it head on.

The result of going outside of my comfort zone and trying new things? The absolutely best outcome possible! I gained so many new experiences, created so many memorable moments with friends, and most importantly, I really enjoyed the time I spent out of the house. I had chosen to stay cooped up in my house for so long that I had been missing all that goes on outside in the world. Due to me going outside of my comfort zone, I got to go to concerts, have late night chats with my friends eating frozen yogurt or jamming to music, and experience things I would have declined to do in the past. And this ability to face my fear and get past it and step out of my comfort zone gives me a joyful, satisfying feeling that is unlike any other.

So, if any of you are shy like me, and are hesitant to go outside of your comfort zone and try new things, I highly recommend trying it. You don't have to leap outside of your comfort zone and try something ridiculously crazy. Take baby steps. For example, if your friends invite you shopping and you would normally decline the offer and stay inside your house, try to accept the offer and go shopping with them. You will probably even have fun having a cute outing with your friends! Taking little steps like that will help you step out into the world and step out of your comfort zone. Yes, it is scary thinking about trying new things and putting yourself out there. But trust me, based on personal experience, facing this fear and trying new things is completely worth it. By stepping outside of your comfort zone, you will gain new experiences, meet new people, and have a more positive outlook on your life as a whole.

Getting Through Finals Week

As winter break is approaching and finals week is coming up, many students are stressed about how to study in order to perform successfully on their tests. Here are some tips on how to be calm, well rested, and ready for finals week. 1. Use Quizlet  - I started using Quizlet my junior year of high school, and I have used it ever since. I am now a freshman in college and I still use Quizlet for my classes. Quizlet is amazing; if you have a lot of terms you need to memorize, Quizlet is the perfect online website that will help you study those terms. Once you write in the terms and their definitions, there are a variety of options you can choose in order to study the terms, including a test, flashcards, etc. 2. Get lots of rest - Don't stay out late when you know you have a final the next day. Getting a lot of rest is beneficial if you want to perform well on a test. It does sound lame to go to sleep really early, but if you do so, your body will thank you. By going to sleep early...

Spicy Veggie Bean Chili

Since moving from my old house with a tiny, cramped kitchen to my new house with a large, open kitchen with an island, I have been meal prepping, cooking, and baking a lot more. With this, I have been keen to try new recipes! I do eat meat, but most of the time I tend to cook vegetarian and vegan meals. This vegetarian chili recipe was one that I came across while browsing for a good, hearty chili recipe, and it is so delicious I had to share it with all of you. I did not come up with this recipe myself. The lovely Shannon, with her blog "The Glowing Fridge," posted this recipe. Her website is amazing, and I highly recommend you check it out. (Also, if you are interested in more plant based recipes, take a look at Shannon's website here: https://www.theglowingfridge.com ) Ingredients: 1/3 cup vegetable broth (or 1 tbsp olive oil) - for sautéing 1 onion, diced 1/4 of a finely diced jalapeño (optional) 3 minced cloves of garlic 1 bell pepper of any color, diced 1 ...
