Social Media

Social Media; What's Up With That?

There are so many new types of social media that is coming out or coming back into style. The obvious ones, such as Myspace, are clearly old news. But new types are coming back, such as LinkedIn, a website that is like a Facebook, but is used solely for work and business purposes. But what's up with all these social media websites? Why have a Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Ask. Fm and claim you need more accounts? That's literally puts you on the brink of insanity!

I just wanted to dive into a few of these oh so popular media sites and explain what makes them so popular amongst teens today.

1. Twitter - I have a Twitter, but I don't go online that often. Twitter is HUGE right now, and literally every celebrity you can think of has one. I love Twitter because you can tweet directly to your celebrity crushes and friends, along with people who you don't know personally, but have similarities, such as obsessing over the same celebrity. Twitter allows you to follow celebrities while earning followers back yourself. You can personalize your profile page and tweet in hopes of having your tweet favorited, retweeted, or responded too. And who knows? Maybe if you tweet your celeb crush asking if they will follow you, they will! It happens to some die hard fans!

2. Instagram - Personally, I love Instagram. It's easy, entertaining, and you can follow your favorite celebrities (ex. Justin Bieber, each member of One Direction, etc.). Besides following people, Instagram is all about photos. You can take a photo or choose one from your album and use effects to change the outlook of your picture. After editing your picture you have the option to caption it. Now, this is where people exaggerate everything. There are the overly obsessive hashtaggers who write a whole paragraph of just hashtags (ex. #artsy #nofilter #love #livelife #hot), or the people who demean themselves (ex. "I'm so ugly") in order to get compliments saying, "Omg you are so pretty," or what not. This app focuses mainly on captions, pictures, videos, and seeing how many followers you can receive from people you most likely don't even know.

These are just two examples of social media that I actually have accounts for. I personally love both Facebook and Instagram equally, but there are those obsessive people who only have accounts just to see how many followers or likes on their pictures they can earn, along with being a hashtagger. That is when people go a bit insane. Although there can be downfalls of social media websites, they are great for keeping in touch with others and staying up to date on your favorite celebs, so I highly recommend getting an account now!

Book Recommendations

I am a huge book worm and try to read whenever I have time, which is usually late at night before I go to bed, on weekends, or on breaks. I recently found that I was short on books to read, which led me to research on Google novels that would appeal to me. Because I am a sucker for romance movies, I mainly looked for that genre of novels. I recently got a few novels in the mail along with a few that a friend let me borrow, and I want to share them with you. 1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I have read this book around three or four times, and it is still my favorite novel. It is a story about two teenagers who do have cancer, but it focuses more on the blossoming love story between them and how their world changes because of that as they also go through ups and downs due to their illnesses. It is a great read anywhere and anytime, and will always make you tear up by the end. 2. Let It Snow - This novel consists of three holiday stories written by John Green, Maure...

Dairy-free Banana Bread

From the end of 2019 to now, I have been really into baking breads. Out of the ones I have made, making banana bread and pumpkin walnut bread have been my top favorites. One of the first banana breads that I made was utterly delicious! However, because I like to share my baked goods with others, particularly my boyfriend, I went on the hunt for a dairy free recipe. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, and I wanted to bake something that both he and I could enjoy. So, upon coming upon this recipe during my search online, I made a loaf last night and it was so delicious I had to share it on the blog. Here is the recipe! Photo from Google Images Ingredients: 4 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup canola oil or coconut oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp sea salt Steps: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
