TV Shows

Burst of TV Shows; Good or Bad?

Over the past two years, there has been an immense explosion of new TV shows that are targeting the newer and younger generations of teenagers. Shows like the Simpsons or Friends, popular TV shows from decades ago, are quickly being overrun by seasons of Breaking Bad, Dexter, and Game of Thrones. While some old TV shows such as Grey's Anatomy are making a comeback, the majority of once popular TV shows are being replaced by new ones that are more appealing to the younger generations.

This sudden introduction of a vast amount of TV shows have caught my attention, and I want to skim through a few of them and dig into the deeper meaning of each show in order to explain what makes each so unique, thus gaining a large audience within a short span of time.

Once Upon a Time - This is by far one of my favorite TV shows, because of how the pilot episode immediately draws you in with its mystery and cliffhangers. This shows is a modern take on fairy tales, focusing on the protagonist, Emma Swan, who was brought to Maine by her 10 year old son, Henry. It revolves around Prince Charming and Snow White, who were brought into the real world as normal people, but without any knowledge that they represent fairy tale characters, due to the curse that the evil queen cast onto the whole land. As you progress into the show you learn how everything connects with the Once Upon a Time fairy tale book possessed by Henry, and how each person in the town represents a fairy tale character.

Game of Thrones - I have yet to watch this show, but I plan to once I catch up on Once Upon a Time. Game of Thrones is a fantasy drama, and is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. This show focuses on the medieval fantasy world with all the characters fighting in the one game that matters - the Game of Thrones. In this game there are only two options; you win, or you die; there is no middle ground.

American Horror Story - To be honest, I watched two episodes of season 1 of AHS, and I was completely creeped out! AHS is an American horror show, with each season representing a different setting with different characters. There are 3 seasons, Murder House, Asylum, and Coven, with the 4th season airing in 2014. AHS is one of the most popular TV shows ever to be created, as the 1st season was the biggest new cable season of 2011. The actors are also highly rated, with Jessica Lange winning an Emmy, Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild for her acting.

Book Recommendations

I am a huge book worm and try to read whenever I have time, which is usually late at night before I go to bed, on weekends, or on breaks. I recently found that I was short on books to read, which led me to research on Google novels that would appeal to me. Because I am a sucker for romance movies, I mainly looked for that genre of novels. I recently got a few novels in the mail along with a few that a friend let me borrow, and I want to share them with you. 1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I have read this book around three or four times, and it is still my favorite novel. It is a story about two teenagers who do have cancer, but it focuses more on the blossoming love story between them and how their world changes because of that as they also go through ups and downs due to their illnesses. It is a great read anywhere and anytime, and will always make you tear up by the end. 2. Let It Snow - This novel consists of three holiday stories written by John Green, Maure...

Dairy-free Banana Bread

From the end of 2019 to now, I have been really into baking breads. Out of the ones I have made, making banana bread and pumpkin walnut bread have been my top favorites. One of the first banana breads that I made was utterly delicious! However, because I like to share my baked goods with others, particularly my boyfriend, I went on the hunt for a dairy free recipe. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, and I wanted to bake something that both he and I could enjoy. So, upon coming upon this recipe during my search online, I made a loaf last night and it was so delicious I had to share it on the blog. Here is the recipe! Photo from Google Images Ingredients: 4 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup canola oil or coconut oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp sea salt Steps: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
