Making A Change In My Lifestyle

In the past couple of weeks, I have been deciding to make a change in my diet, and recently, I have actually made an effort to implement it. Over the summer, my face was super clear; I had little to no acne breakouts, and that made me really happy. However, ever since I got back to college, I have been breaking out nonstop. Pimples have been popping up so frequently on my face that I hate going out without makeup on, and when I take my makeup off at the end of the day I cringe at how red and irritated my face is. After talking to my mother about this problem, I decided to take her advice into account, which was to try changing my diet.

At college, the dining halls have a variety of foods, but there are so many unhealthy options that we students tend to gravitate towards. With all the classes we have to take, it is sometimes hard to fit in a good amount of time to exercise, and when we are running into the dining hall to grab a quick snack before class, it is hard to look for a healthy option that we can grab and run out of the dining hall with and eat on the way to class. This has always been a problem for me; my dining hall has hamburgers, pasta, pizza, bagels, etc. which is all delicious food, but really bad for my skin. My skin is very sensitive, and eating a lot of carbohydrates, white flour, sugars, and dairy really irritates my skin and makes me break out. With a change in my diet, I have started seeing a slight difference, which has made me so much happier.

This new diet I transitioned to using includes only consuming a slight amount of dairy (1 cup of milk/week, and very little cheese), eating at least 1 salad a day, avoiding pizzas, desserts, foods with lot of white flour and carbohydrates, and drinking a lot more water. I know that a lot of food is made with white flour and that carbohydrates are very hard to avoid, but when I do consume foods containing those ingredients, I eat small amounts of it. I try to choose foods with a lot of vegetables, and if I have a plate of pasta for example, I pair it with a salad or steamed veggies. Also, by consuming a lot more water, my skin has been improving, and I have been having less aggressive breakouts on my face.

Everyone's skin is different, and everyone eats a variety of foods, but this change in diet to a healthier one is really working for me. I still eat the occasional plate of pasta, bagel, or pizza, but I always pair it with something healthy. I tend to avoid sugary desserts now, consuming fresh fruits instead of cupcakes, cake, ice cream, or pie. Now, consuming a lot of heavy, greasy foods typically make me feel really laggy and unhealthy, while having more healthier foods such as salad, steamed veggies, sandwiches with veggies and whole wheat bread, and so on, gives me more energy, and makes me feel better about what I am consuming. I have always struggled with acne since I went through puberty, and by modifying my diet and putting healthier foods into my body, my skin has been starting to clear up immensely, and I know that I am now living a healthier lifestyle.

Book Recommendations

I am a huge book worm and try to read whenever I have time, which is usually late at night before I go to bed, on weekends, or on breaks. I recently found that I was short on books to read, which led me to research on Google novels that would appeal to me. Because I am a sucker for romance movies, I mainly looked for that genre of novels. I recently got a few novels in the mail along with a few that a friend let me borrow, and I want to share them with you. 1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I have read this book around three or four times, and it is still my favorite novel. It is a story about two teenagers who do have cancer, but it focuses more on the blossoming love story between them and how their world changes because of that as they also go through ups and downs due to their illnesses. It is a great read anywhere and anytime, and will always make you tear up by the end. 2. Let It Snow - This novel consists of three holiday stories written by John Green, Maure...

Dairy-free Banana Bread

From the end of 2019 to now, I have been really into baking breads. Out of the ones I have made, making banana bread and pumpkin walnut bread have been my top favorites. One of the first banana breads that I made was utterly delicious! However, because I like to share my baked goods with others, particularly my boyfriend, I went on the hunt for a dairy free recipe. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, and I wanted to bake something that both he and I could enjoy. So, upon coming upon this recipe during my search online, I made a loaf last night and it was so delicious I had to share it on the blog. Here is the recipe! Photo from Google Images Ingredients: 4 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup canola oil or coconut oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp sea salt Steps: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
