Thanksgiving 2016

Thanksgiving just passed, and now that that big holiday is done, everyone is moving on into the Christmas spirit. I myself absolutely love Thanksgiving and Christmas because of all the delicious food, decorations that line people's houses as well as stores, and how the holidays bring families together. Although there is much to look forward to in the upcoming month, I am going to backtrack for a bit and talk about my Thanksgiving.

My Thanksgiving this year was pretty small. A lot of my cousins either went out of town or to their significant other's home, so that cancelled out having the usual big Thanksgiving at my home. However, we still had a lovely thanksgiving at my grandmothers and grandfather's place. The turnout for this Thanksgiving was small, intimate, and cozy, and consisted of my family (parents, my brother, and I), my grandmother and grandfather, my dad's sister, my dad's brother and his wife, my cousin, that cousin's sister and her husband and their 6 month old son, and my cousin's husband's two sisters.

The Thanksgiving food was absolutely delicious. There was a small salad, fruit, and shrimp and oyster bar, with dinner rolls on the side. After that was the Thanksgiving meal, consisting of cranberry sauce, turkey, ham, salmon, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, asparagus, green been casserole, pumpkin pie, and pecan pie. Out of all those options I had salad, fruit, turkey, salmon, mashed potatoes, gravy, asparagus, and pumpkin pie. I also had a glass of sparkling apple cider as well. I thought that the food was absolutely delicious, and I cleared my entire plate. Thanksgiving meals are probably my favorite out of all the holidays, and I always look forward to Thanksgiving the most.

Besides getting to eat my favorite meal, getting to see my family was great. I rarely get to see my family except for when we have holiday, birthday, surprise announcement gatherings, etc. and it was great to talk to my relatives and catch up with them. Since everyone is starting to move off into living their own lives and pursuing their dreams, we do not get to see each other as often, so it is always good to catch up whenever possible!

Overall, my Thanksgiving was fantastic. I got to get a 4 day break from school, got to catch up on sleep (although I am still sleep deprived), spend time with my family, bake pumpkin pie to share at home, do homework, and relax in the quiet that I rarely get living in a residence hall at college. Spending time at home is always something I love to do, and I am glad I was able to make it home for Thanksgiving. Now I am back at school for finals and then winter break, and am already looking forward to that break as well as Christmas!

Book Recommendations

I am a huge book worm and try to read whenever I have time, which is usually late at night before I go to bed, on weekends, or on breaks. I recently found that I was short on books to read, which led me to research on Google novels that would appeal to me. Because I am a sucker for romance movies, I mainly looked for that genre of novels. I recently got a few novels in the mail along with a few that a friend let me borrow, and I want to share them with you. 1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I have read this book around three or four times, and it is still my favorite novel. It is a story about two teenagers who do have cancer, but it focuses more on the blossoming love story between them and how their world changes because of that as they also go through ups and downs due to their illnesses. It is a great read anywhere and anytime, and will always make you tear up by the end. 2. Let It Snow - This novel consists of three holiday stories written by John Green, Maure...

Dairy-free Banana Bread

From the end of 2019 to now, I have been really into baking breads. Out of the ones I have made, making banana bread and pumpkin walnut bread have been my top favorites. One of the first banana breads that I made was utterly delicious! However, because I like to share my baked goods with others, particularly my boyfriend, I went on the hunt for a dairy free recipe. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, and I wanted to bake something that both he and I could enjoy. So, upon coming upon this recipe during my search online, I made a loaf last night and it was so delicious I had to share it on the blog. Here is the recipe! Photo from Google Images Ingredients: 4 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup canola oil or coconut oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp sea salt Steps: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a standard size loaf pan (I use olive ...
