Mockingjay Part One

I went and saw Mockingjay Part One last Friday, and needless to say, it was amazing. I went into this movie with very very low expectations; because I was not seeing the movie opening day like I normally do, I was reading a variety of different reviews on the film. Many people had said that the film was just as good as the first two, while others said that it was not worth watching, thus leading to my conflicted expectations for the movie. However, it was just as great as the first two movies.

When I first saw the trailer for this film I was excited, as it captured the tension and action that the book so greatly depicts. I was so excited to see the characters that have led their lives throughout the games and in District 12 plot their revenge on the Capitol, while also wanting to see the new characters that were to be introduced. Although I should have been excited to see the three main characters, I was probably most excited to see Finnick, who was my favorite character in Catching Fire. All the characters were amazing as usual, and the film did not fail to disappoint.

Mockingjay Part One starts off where Catching Fire left off, with the bombing of District 12 and how it was basically destroyed by the Capitol. It showed the remains of District 12 and the mysterious District 13, along with the Capitol and the famous white rose. This third film really captured the idea of destruction and how loved ones come into play as many of the characters' worlds come crashing down around them. All of the actors really embraced their character roles, and the film involved so much emotion, and I found myself connecting to each and every character.

What I loved the most about the movie was the different angles in which it was filmed. We were given close ups, birds eye views, low angles, panning shots, etc. that really allowed the viewers of the film to feel as if they were in that same exact place in which the characters were. Through these different shots the movie was given a very dynamic and diverse outlook, which really caught my attention.

To be honest, I really was not expecting much from this movie, as when I read the novel, I did not believe it was as good as the first two. However, the movie proved me wrong. It was interesting, and I was always on the edge of my seat, waiting for what was going to come next. I was engrossed, engaged, and surprisingly very emotional, which was fantastic!

For all those who are telling themselves they will wait to see the film until the lines die down or it comes out on DVD, I highly recommend seeing it now. When I went a week later after it came out the theater wasn't even crowded. And, it really is worth watching immediately, and not worth waiting months and months to see. It is just as good as the first two films, and I am positive that when the second part of Mockingjay comes out, it will be just as good as the first, with the action, tension, and romance all leading up to the grand finale.

Book Recommendations

I am a huge book worm and try to read whenever I have time, which is usually late at night before I go to bed, on weekends, or on breaks. I recently found that I was short on books to read, which led me to research on Google novels that would appeal to me. Because I am a sucker for romance movies, I mainly looked for that genre of novels. I recently got a few novels in the mail along with a few that a friend let me borrow, and I want to share them with you. 1. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green - I have read this book around three or four times, and it is still my favorite novel. It is a story about two teenagers who do have cancer, but it focuses more on the blossoming love story between them and how their world changes because of that as they also go through ups and downs due to their illnesses. It is a great read anywhere and anytime, and will always make you tear up by the end. 2. Let It Snow - This novel consists of three holiday stories written by John Green, Maure...

Dairy-free Banana Bread

From the end of 2019 to now, I have been really into baking breads. Out of the ones I have made, making banana bread and pumpkin walnut bread have been my top favorites. One of the first banana breads that I made was utterly delicious! However, because I like to share my baked goods with others, particularly my boyfriend, I went on the hunt for a dairy free recipe. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, and I wanted to bake something that both he and I could enjoy. So, upon coming upon this recipe during my search online, I made a loaf last night and it was so delicious I had to share it on the blog. Here is the recipe! Photo from Google Images Ingredients: 4 very ripe bananas 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1/2 cup canola oil or coconut oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp sea salt Steps: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
